We just met with Dr. Ahmed (Genetics). He's awesome. He told us that
my HNPCC screening was negative, indicating that I don't have one form
of genetically sharable cancer. The other test they'll do now is an
FAP screening. It's the other form that can be passed genetically. A
negative result on that will indicate that there is no known genetic
link (to the extent of modern genetic scientific knowledge).
UPDATE--I almost forgot to explain the photo. It seems that the Genetics department moves around a bit. Last time we met with Dr. Ahmed, he was in the OB department. This time they had him stationed in Pediatrics. So, I got to watch part of a cartoon and then go into a hospital room that had a bed painted like a sleeping lion. :)

Great news. So does this mean that Erica should not be likely to have this passed on to her, or Steve is not likely either? And if this does not show to be genetic, do they have any idea how you , got this nasty thing? We all appericate the ifo you pass on. It is important as well as educational to everyone that reads it.
It's my understanding that this is a gene that can be passed genetically. That means that Steve or Erica could have the same gene. So, that means that it's safe to say that it's very very likely (probably impossible) that they don't have that gene. If I'm screened out of the second test, then it means that there is not a known genetic link to this strange cancer. Basically, it means that I'm probably some sort of freak of nature or that my body did something strange or that somehow I just came down with this particular cancer.
Tim, Thanks for making that more clear. It is amazing that a gene can make us all so alike or so different. We will be looking forward to hearing the second set of results. Thanks for keeping everyone in the loop. LOve Aunt Sue and Uncle Frank
