A Few Favorite Randy Pausch Quotes

Nearly every Sunday morning, I wake up before Erica and Robin. I drink coffee, usually cut some coupons, often make breakfast for the ladies, and watch CBS News Sunday Morning. Today, they had a feature on Randy Pausch. He really seemed to have a way of putting things in perspective and of shining a new light on everyday events. I thought I'd share a few favorite quotes:

  • It is not about achieving your dreams but living your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you.
  • Never underestimate the importance of having fun. I’m dying and I’m having fun. And I’m going to keep having fun every day, because there’s no other way to play it….Having fun for me is like a fish talking about the importance of water. I don’t know how it is like not to have fun…
  • Never lose the child-like wonder. It’s just too important. It’s what drives us. Help others.
  • I’ve never understood pity and self-pity as an emotion. We have a finite amount of time. Whether short or long, it doesn’t matter. Life is to be lived.
Happy Sunday. Best wishes for keeping your karma clean, having fun, living life, and walking around with some child-like wonder.

Tim, The very first time I saw or heard of Randy Pausch, was just after you were diagnosed with your cancer. I immediately , saw "you" in him. Not the cancer, but the love of life, Randy originally left his last lecture for his children....You are an outstanding father , you show Erica, love, joy, the appreciation of nature, you have always been the oh so important "hands on Dad". You and Robin set the utmost perfect example for Erica of what husband and wife love is, as well as the love of being parents. You set standards and guidelines, but you do so with love respect and appreciation for your beautiful daughter. I saw from the very first, you are and always have been the loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, friend, teacher, mentor and yes even hunter and fisherman. Even while going through chemo, you fufill, you family plans camping, beach parties, barely out of the hospital for only a couple of days a family dinner at Panda. A beautiful Passover celebration at Steve and Dawn's, you had just had very heavy chemo, but you were their with nearly all of our family. You extrude wonderful karma" You share your love of life with everyone from the kid that sold you your bike, to all of those of us that love to read , enjoy and look forward to your daily blogs, sharing a tiny spectrum of your love for life.. You are alot like Randy Pausch, a wonderful human being. We just want you to be sharing all of this , and continue setting such fantastic examples for your grandchildren. LOve Aunt Sue

I always thought that you looked like your dad until now.

Live life to have fun and enjoy every minute of each day.
Don't ever give up on your self because you are stronger then you know.
Take something good out of every day because if you look deep enough you will find it.
Look for all of the love that is directed toward you and you will see how rich you are.

Love, Dad
